Good morning L.I.G.H.T. Families!
As I sit here and type, the weather team from NBC 10 just reported that this is a BEACH WEEK!! I hope you all find some time to relax and enjoy one of the treasures our little Ocean State!
Today’s note to you centers on a bunch of wonderful PLUSES from our year-end evaluations. We received many accolades about our facilitators, here are a few!
* Father always sets such a beautiful example for us all!
* Norman is fantastic, the messages are always
stimulating and keep us involved!
* Enjoyed the conversations with adults and
learning from different perspectives!
* The teachers are very good!
* And my favorite… the teachers are sweeties!
We are so blessed to have some wonderful, dynamic, devoted, and faith-filled volunteers that work with all of our L.I.G.H.T. family members: from our playful preschoolers right up to our super senior citizens!! J In the beginning of May, we had a fun evening out to thank them all for last years’ service. It was great to be able to show them our appreciation on behalf of the entire parish.
Our facilitators for L.I.G.H.T. are in fact catechists. They are tasked with passing on the Catholic faith to our children and, equally as important, they are tasked with sharing their faith with other adults. (Really we all are, as you will read in my conclusion below!)
We are so fortunate to have a wonderful intergenerational program that allows us all to continue to grow together in our faith. Students are not learning in a vacuum, our parents are sharing the faith conversation and it IS being brought into the fabric of your family life as a result. The conversations that continue from each month’s presentations may be obvious, or they may blend in to the day’s events, but they are there in your home. And they are providing a firm foundation upon which your children will be able to build throughout their lives.
As always, we do need a few new facilitators to help us out in this year’s breakout groups. We provide the background, the lessons, the materials, and as much support as you will allow us to. You just need to bring your love for children and for your faith! It can be challenging at times, but what you’ll get in return will be immeasurable.
So, I ask you all to prayerfully consider joining our volunteer team this year. Here are our needs for the 2013-2014 season. (And if you were a facilitator last year and have recently learned that you cannot help us in this way come September, please let me know ASAP!!)
TUESDAY NIGHTS: PreSacrament (K-1)
FRIDAY NIGHTS: Sacrament (First Communion & First Reconciliation),
MidSacrament 1 (4-6)
To end this note, I want to share a very timely message from Pope Francis as he concluded World Youth Day this weekend:
“Faith is a flame that grows stronger the more it is shared and passed on, so that everyone may know, love and confess Jesus Christ, the Lord of life and history (cf. Rom 10:9).
Jesus did not say: “if you would like to, if you have the time”, but: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Sharing the experience of faith, bearing witness to the faith, proclaiming the Gospel: this is a command that the Lord entrusts to the whole Church, and that includes you; but it is a command that is born not from a desire for domination or power but from the force of love, from the fact that Jesus first came into our midst and gave us, not a part of himself, but the whole of himself, he gave his life in order to save us and to show us the love and mercy of God.”
Have a great day everyone! I hope it finds you at the beach (at least in spirit!)
See you at Church!
