Hi L.I.G.H.T. Friends,
We are almost done with our first week of Advent - the special period which is marked by waiting and preparing for Christ to come among us at Christmastime. We are called to prepare, not our homes, but our hearts at this time of year. These preparation help us to accomplish what we talked about last month at L.I.G.H.T. – self-respect. When we spend time in the quiet, inviting God into our hearts, that helps us to cultivate respect for the greatest gift we have ever received. The gift of self.
I hope that you have been discovering the many gifts that you have been blessed with as a result of our gift box exercise in November. I know I have. They seem to be coming out of the wood work!!
In the spirit of the liturgical season, I have found a wonderful, contemporary, quick and easy way to start each day with a little bit of Advent. Check out this website: http://america-magazine.journeymaker.org/advent-sj. If you sign up for this daily alert, you will get a link sent to your e-mail each morning. In it you will find a short reading and a short reflection. The reading might just be one line. The reflection is relevant to our lives in the world today. I have tried and failed to make this in ritual in year’s past for myself, but this one is easy and enjoyable, I highly recommend it. It can literally take you less than a minute to complete and the message will be something to contemplate each as you move through each Advent day and help you to accomplish the goal of preparing your heart for Jesus.
See you at Church!
