Saw the new Facebook commercial last week and couldn't resist altering it a bit as it perfectly captures the essence of what we are doing at L.I.G.H.T.!
Enjoy and have a great weekend! See some of you tonight!
Good Afternoon LIGHT Families!
I was recently reading a book (Changed Heart, Changed World by William A. Barry, SJ) when I was struck by a phrase that captures the very essence of our last Gathering’s focus. It speaks of “…the image of God as a parent inviting adult children to join the family business.”
The world is God’s family business. Only in this world can God attain the dream. But God can attain that dream only if we, who are created in God’s image and likeness, live out our likeness as God’s sons and daughters and accept the invitation to join the family business.
It is another call, coming through loud and clear that we are to be Co-Creators with our Heavenly Father. If you want to spend some time contemplating this truth, you might want to try this reflective exercise. It is one of many developed by St. Ignatius Loyola to help people deepen their relationship with God.
Enjoy the weekend!
Good Morning L.I.G.H.T. Families! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful, long, fall weekend in beautiful New England! As promised at the first Gathering of the year – we will be using our new and improved website to “Keep the Conversation going” all month long. Please pause today and choose one of these six options to consider with your family.
In the Beginning
Simple Acts of Kindness
Get Ready for Mass
Question of the Month
They can also be found at our Gathering Extender portion of the website on the ‘Hanging out with God’ page. http://scplight.weebly.com/god.html. Each page has a different way for you to report back to us regarding the Gathering Extender that you decided to try. None of them will take very long and all of them will enrich your family’s faith in some way. Do as many as you’d like, but please do try one. Explore, Enjoy, have fun continuing the Creation and the Conversation!
Good Morning L.I.G.H.T. Family!
I wanted to write a quick note to thank all of our Facilitators and Designers – both new and “seasoned!!” You are all a fabulous team and I just want to tell you how much you are appreciated. Without you, there would be no program.
So on behalf of the entire L.I.G.H.T. Family and our whole parish! Thank you!
Have a great day everyone!
Good afternoon everyone! I had something else planned for my note to you today, but this is in hot off the presses and I just needed to share!
Little Abi Polo had a great time at her family’s L.I.G.H.T. Gathering last Friday night. And while there, she really took it all in. Check out the picture that she drew the next day…
Take note of her words, echoing one of the important lessons of our evening – God loves us all. And check out the picture she drew that depicts what God looks like in her mind's eye (our Pre-Sacrament class spent time talking about what God is like and started by drawing their own image of our Creator.)
But my favorite part of the story is that she emulated our opening presentation by making two newspapers, one for her family and one for her neighbor and delivered the Good News to them both. Just like it was delivered to us during our Opening.
I think we're doing something right as we Live In Grace and Hope Together at L.I.G.H.T.! Thanks to the Polo’s for sharing this Good News with us!
Enjoy the day everyone, and remember – God loves you! Keep on doing the good work of Creation with Him!
Good Morning L.I.G.H.T. Family,
I found an interesting article in my e-mail in-box yesterday and thought of all of you parents that are “in the trenches” with children, adolescents, and teens on a daily basis. The article is short, yet profound. It then points to four other links. In particular – I loved the one entitled “Walking with Youth.” It’s an easy article to read as it discusses that point in life when a growing child begins to question their faith. If you have gone through that experience yet, you know how heart-wrenching it can be for a parent and how overwhelming it can be for the child involved. This article will help reassure you as well as give you some practical advice that you can use in your home. I've posted a link below so you can check it out!
Have a great day everyone!
Good Morning L.I.G.H.T. Family! I hope you had a great weekend, gray and rainy as it was…
We had a terrific Gathering week to start off our year and I for one am certainly glad to be back into full swing with the program. It was a lot of fun as well as eye-opening to put order to Creation, to share stories of loving moments in our lives, to discover how much we creating we already do, and then to hear all the news of what it means for us to be Co-Creators with God; how it is – an awesome privilege and a great responsibility. I hope you enjoyed exploring “GNN” – our new GOD NEWS NETWORK! If you’d like to take a look at any of the “reports” that we watched during our evening together, you can find them all at godnewsnetwork.weebly.com
During Norm’s Breakout session (on at least one of the Gathering nights), mention was made of the Bible being a Love Letter to us from God. I love this analogy. When you think of the Bible in that light, it can really change the way you read and understand it. If you are interested in this line of thought, you might enjoy the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxQTU0YCQdE
There are many different versions of this presentation; and they are a bit contrived, but I like them because they help me to remember how the verses of the Bible speak directly to me of God’s love for all of us. If you choose to watch it, remember when the video finishes, that is not the end of the love letter. It is not a summary of God’s love for us. It is an invitation to read the Bible so that you can start to understand for yourself what God wants you to know!
Have a wonderful Monday!
